Editorial Policy
This page explains how OUT Interiors is made: who writes it, how we research, how we use AI-assisted tools, how we evaluate what we recommend, how we
handle mistakes, and how we make money. We’ve written it because those are reasonable questions to ask of any publication, and most sites in our field don’t answer them.

Who we are
OUT Interiors is an independent home design publication founded in 2026. We are not owned by a retailer, a manufacturer, a paint brand, or a design firm. No
Advertiser or a like partner has any input into what we publish or what we recommend. Editorial responsibility for everything on this site rests with Rhonda Brooks.
How we research
Every guide starts from a question a reader is actually asking and what they need in order to make a decision. For anything factual, we go to primary sources wherever we can:
- Paint and material specifications published by manufacturers—light reflectance values, finishes, coverage, and durability ratings.
- Industry research, such as the National Kitchen & Bath Association’s annual trends reports.
- Cost research, such as Remodeling magazine’s Cost vs. Value report.
- Published design and building standards for anything involving dimensions, clearances, or safety.
Where we cite a figure, we link to its source so you can check it yourself. Where credible sources disagree—and on questions like rug sizing or open-plan layouts, they genuinely do—we say so rather than presenting one view as settled.
What we don’t do
We don’t invent first-hand experience. If we haven’t personally used a product or lived with a material, we don’t write as though we have. Our guides are researched, not experiential, and we’d rather tell you that than fake a story about our own kitchen.
We don’t invent expert input. No unnamed “designers say” or “experts agree.” If a professional’s view is quoted, they’re named and linked.
We don’t publish unsourced statistics. If we can’t link it, we don’t use it.
We don’t fabricate reader testimonials or reviews.
We don’t write recommendations without trade-offs. Every material, layout, and color has conditions where it’s the wrong choice, and saying so is more useful than enthusiasm.
How we use AI-assisted tools
We use AI-assisted tools in parts of our research, drafting, and editing workflow. We disclose this because it’s true and because you’re entitled to know how what you’re reading was made. What that does and doesn’t mean:
No article is published without a person reviewing and editing it. These tools assist a workflow; they don’t run it. Every factual claim is checked against a source before publication. Where a claim can’t be verified, it comes out.
A person is accountable for every article. If something is wrong, that’s our error to own and correct—not a tool’s.
How we evaluate products and recommendations.
When we recommend a material, product, or approach, we weigh:
- Fit for real conditions—light, humidity, foot traffic, children, pets, and room size.
- Total cost—purchase price, installation, and what it costs to maintain over time
- Longevity and upkeep—how it ages, what it needs, how forgiving it is
- Trade-offs—what you’re giving up by choosing it
- We recommend against things regularly. A guide where every option is excellent is a guide that hasn’t been written properly.
Affiliate relationships play no part in these judgements. We have never been paid for a positive recommendation and won’t be.
Corrections
We correct errors openly rather than deleting them quietly. If you spot something wrong, email contact@outinteriors.com with the article and the issue. A source helps but isn’t required. What happens next:
- We aim to acknowledge within 48 hours.
- We verify the claim against primary sources.
- Where the error is substantive — a wrong figure, an incorrect specification, a misattributed source — we correct the article and add a dated correction note at the foot of it
- Where it’s minor—a typo, a broken link, a formatting fault—we fix it without a note.
- Where an article can no longer be made accurate, we unpublish it rather than leave it up.
